  • Its hardly MRC's fault that land values have risen - its called market dynamics. I know for a fact MRC are helping small businesses -have you actually called them (Ed S and Marianne B) to discuss?

Also, have you raised your concerns about local businesses out pricing themselves with Commerce Roma?

  • The plan is to do just that, but will take some effort that's for sure. Roma seems to be such a vibrant place and I can't understand your comments about it going down the drain. Want to elaborate? You can do so on the Surat Basin Corporation website forums if you would like to - I would very much like you to start a discussion on there.

  • Bill - that's why Maranoa Council and the SBC are working on a number of housing solutions. One of which is the Roma Urban Development Area

  • @SuratBasin Yes and Yes!

The Response I got From MRC when i tried to Get approval to build a shed on my land i already own that is 15km out of town to operate a small pump repair workshop out of was that i MUST setup business in the already approved Industrial estate in Town. When i said that I couldnt afford the cost of the Land in their industrial estates, To Quote MRC in their response

"If your business is projected to be successful, then you should be able to borrow the money required"

  • No business just starting up can afford to buy the land, let alone then build a shed on it as well unless you are in the oil and gas industry and have their backing. Its just a joke...

  • MRC are not making anything easier for smaller business either, as they only seem interested in helpingthe larger business that are in Oil and Gas. They are making the big business bigger, and knocking back the smaller businesses who are trying to make a go of it. And you try and purchase some land in an industrial area in town.

  • I have to agree with Bill. Born and Bred in Roma. It is getting so hard to get anything done without having to pay oil and Gas prices. As an example, I was quoted in town by 2 engineering works for a new shaft for my winch. The quote from both Was well in excess of $2K. Exactly same specification shaft ex Bris, Landed in Roma, $350.

  • and i bet the average person will NOT be able to afford to live there, unless the rents come down quite a bit. All pie in the sky stuff.I'm born and bred here in Roma and i'm sad to say that the town that i grew up in is going down the drain socially for a start.

  • Bacause of the greedy landlords chasing the oil and gas money, people can't afford to move out here,$600,$700 $800 a week just for a start...load of rubbish....

  • Only a great place for businesses, business owners, and people who work in the oil and gas industry due to inflated living expenses and a local council that prefers to line their own pocket than provide the community with what they need ....
