This short video illustrates steps to make a plate using "vlexicut" and steps for printing an image on a Vandercook letterpress printing press. I will add narration later.
In etching, ink is applied to the plate, then the area on top of the plate is wiped off. An etching press lifts the ink out from the "etched" lines. The ink is lifted out onto the paper. Letterpress is like lino block printing. The rollers apply ink to the highest areas of the block or the parts that were not cut away. That park of the block is printed. You can see that letterpress printing takes less time to print a sheet since the press inks the block as it is printed.
I LIKE IT! I really enjoy the idea of being able to create something yourself instead of just going and buying a computerized or manufactured something that has little heart in it. Thumbs up.
letterpress is so different to an etching press.... mmmm, confused but fascinated!!!
