how can i get up there with model a and the first boss?

Just climb up on the right side of the barrels. You can get there with a dash-jump.

You can just wall jump on the other side quickly to the life up.

i cant seem to find a way to get up the pillar by wall jumping

You can even get the life up by only using model A, without any extension chips specially the "featherweight" chip. Just make sure to wall climb very fast.
