@xoxidedotcom Thanks for replying, I found this out from elsewhere and am now happily running my 550w PSU and graphics card in my desktop. I managed to install a new CPU, graphics card and PSU in one sitting so I'm very happy with my new setup.

Hi, I have a 250w PSU and have bought a new 550w to help power my new graphics card. Do I have to change any settings, either in my BIOS or otherwise, to make sure each component isn't overloaded with electricity?

@Adam0H No, computer power supplies will only provide as much power as they are "asked" for. You can install any wattage from 300w to 3000w, as long as it is enough to power your system. There are no ill effects from having "too much" power, and actually, power supplies are at their peak performance at around 50% load, so buying a higher-wattage power supply than you need can actually be beneficial.
