  • We had a problem with these birds in Missouri years ago when I was NCOIC of Operations at Whiteman AFB. The preferred location for performing their mating ritual was on our runway. That created a great risk for planes that were arriving or departing. I can attest to the fact that, in the interest of safety, these birds were often shot and, they were delicious when stewed in red wine.

  • What an alien-looking scene! I had heard about the prairie chicken's lek system, but to see and hear it in motion makes it so much more real.
