This video shows a ride on the Powell - Hyde Cable Car in San Francisco. Starting out at the cable car turntable at Powell and Market Streets. You can see how the turn the cars. Then the ride up Powell Street, turning on to Jackson Street. Then down Hyde St. with same great views of the San Francisco Bay, and Alcatraz, to the end of the line at the Aquatic Park.

I think so. Not only that, but pushing to cars on and off, and operating the grip. Those guys really have to put some muscle in to their job.

I've heard that the hardest requirement to become a cable car operator is just the sheer physical strength required to handle the grip. If you meet a guy who's a cable car gripman, don't challenge him to an arm wrestling match, at least not if there's money involved.
