really?! oh hell! call me oldschool but i like the old last generation diesels, the ones that go clatter.. clatter.. The ones that push out a puff of black smoke on start up and have that distinctive diesel smell if the winds blowing the right direction. Dont get me started on elctronic throttle control and hydraulic clutches!

@marooncorsa hate to burst your bubble man, but this thing has been around since the early ninetys, possibly 1986... diesels are now entering the dark ages... al we can do now is cling to our IDI's, board up the windows, and watch emissions laws like a hawk

we do need electronics on engines nowadays. We could NOT get the same power and efficiency without them. They are a pain in the arse though...

umm I have to disagree I have a 24 and 12valves both guess what my 12valve dont have dead pedal problems or idle reset sensor problems so no it doesent do what the old diesel does
-
Agreed! It ends just when it gets interesting!

The Cummins 24 valve is electronic and it does all the stuff you think an old diesel with no electronics does.
I'm about to try and replace the servo on a VE 605 pump with the mechanical lever housing from a 602. I don't think it will work but it will solve most of my problems if it works. (Merc C250 TurboDiesel)

Thats not physically possible. You will have to replace the entire injection pump with a mechanical one from an OM602 engine.

Sorry, wrong button.
"Thanks, yes. I ended up doing just that. Now I'm wondering about tuning (pump timing and turns on the max screw) Any tips?"
Yes, click the link in the video description. We have a guide to tune the injection pumps.

Crap! the diesel was famous for being reliable because there was no electronics. purely mechanical. now its becoming just as electric laden as its gasser cousin.

Just as electronic? No, The CDI models are already far more electronic.
