@RocketRodder That boat had worked in the Sacramento Delta for years before the Greene family bought her,had her towed through the Panama Canal to NOLA & worked her plying the rivers for the next 61 years & you say that the idiots who bought her couldn't understand that any used vessel or vehicle comes w/ maintenance headaches that will cost them money so THAT was their justification for taking her out of service?Congress had been fought to a standstill since 1973 tio keep her in service.

The Delta Queen had run for over 10 years sold out. One had to book almost a year and half in advance to get a cruise. The company didn't think she was what the public wanted. They threw her away and went modern and bankrupt. She is still around and working everyday, just unable to move.

It's just political BS. The politicians don't want be responsible if something does happen, flawless safety record or not. Whether they keep a fire in her boilers or not, I'm just happy she exists!

Actually, "they" had EVERY right. There comes a point in every great vessel's life where it no longer becomes useful or even 'safe', and rebuilding it, refurbishing it and spending money can only do so much without costing a fortune.
