  • the original version paints a picture like this: someone sitting in a faintly dim-lit library (in a giant mansion, of course) feeling sad and contemplative. and your version paints a picture like this: that same man pacing the hallway back and forth angrily, beneath the calmly dancing flames of the sconces. so interesting.

  • For me the original paints a picture of a girl with a black eye-patch and green-tinged hair, sitting by a rare stream in a desert land and playing a wooden flute. Next to her, in the water of the stream, there is a reed bed in which birds are nesting. The girl's music is melancholy and it makes some of the nearby birds tilt their heads to listen.

The imagery invoked by music is utterly subjective.

  • I enjoy playing Satie on the piano, and now I've taken up the guitar I knew the Gymnopedies and Gnossiennes could sound good on it. You absolutely confirm this: utterly delightful, with the lightness and melancholy that are quintessentially Satie. Any faster or slower and you'll go too far one way or the other - but you know that. (And do forgive improlozofia - he knoweth not that about which he talketh.)

Any clips of you playing the Gymnopedies?

  • Thanks for your kind comment, much appreciated.

  • What a talent. I cant sing i cant play any instrument but i can listen and that is worth listening to.

  • @DenianArcoleo your image is indeed imaginative and relevant - "gnossienne" is a word coined by Satie from the Greek "gnosis" meaning "knowledge" - his feminisation of it suggests either the knowledge of a female, or the knowledge possessed by a female - either way, lyrical, delicate, tender, and, like all his pieces, overtly sensual. beauty is in the ear of the beholder.

  • Merci pour votre interpretation, elle me touche beaucoup. c'est magnifique !

  • That was really great! I enjoyed it a lot! This may be a silly question, but are you using an open tuning for the piece?

  • great sound and feeling. And thanks for the sheet music .

  • Awesome!!!!!!!!!!

  • Cheers!
