lyrics-The summer had inhaled
And held its breath too long.
The winter looked the same,
As if it had never gone,
And through an open window,
Where no curtain hung,
I saw you, I saw you,
Coming back to me.

One begins to read between
The pages of a look.
The sound of sleepy music,
And suddenly, you're hooked.
I saw you, I saw you,
Coming back to me.

You came to stay and live my way,
Scatter my love like leaves in the wind.
You always say that you won't go away,
But I know what it always has been,
It always has been.

A transparent dream
Beneath an occasional sigh...
Most of the time,
I just let it go by.
Now I wish it hadn't begun.
I saw you, I saw you,
Coming back to me.

Strolling the hill,
Overlooking the shore,
I realize I've been here before.
The shadow in the mist
Could have been anyone--
I saw you, I saw you,
Coming back to me.

Small things like reasons
Are put in a jar.
Whatever happened to wishes,
Wished on a star?
Was it just something
That I made up for fun?
I saw you, I saw you,
Coming back to me.

  • This "gem" by the Airplane is timeless!Has there ever been a better song that captures the listener from the start and proceeds to touch your soul for 5:23? This remarkable song is FLAWLESS! Raw feeling and emotion immortalized! This tune should be mandatory listening to anyone who wants to capture, for a brief moment anyway, what it felt like to be alive in the "summer of love." TY!

  • I love this fucking song.

  • Love this song - brings back some deep memories. What the heck is the subject matter of the video?

  • Thank you, for Dave, who passed in August

  • @friendlier I was in High School back East during this time and was very curious about what was happening out there on the West coast. Listening to this was quite a bit different than what I was hearing on the radio. Seeing pictures of the Haight at that time said to me there's definitely a movement going on here. Kids started to question and 'ditch' classes . I started hearing it in College and seeing the kids try to emulate the "Trip" that was going on amidst the demonstrations and all.

  • I remember this back then from "Surrealistic Pillow" very '60's and one of the best Marty Balin Ballads. He put this together in November '66 after getting some dynamite weed from Paul Butterfield. He ran down to the studio where "Surrealistic Pillow" was being made I think at Capitol Records and put this together. Pretty impressive. Peace.

  • I was a teenage runaway to Frisco in that summer of 1967. Of all the music from that intensely beautiful and frightening era, nothing still stops me in my tracks like this does. From the first guitar notes...

  • u miss some lyrics in the second verse

  • as George Harrison said, and I quote

    :The past is gone,the future is unknown and all we have is the present;

    unless you are a magician.

  • I love this song still after so many years--brings back memories of summer with my friends at the beach, nights of looking at the stars in Topanga Canyon, Indian bedspreads on my windows, magic mushrooms and lovemaking in the forest....the summers of my youth.
