those old internationals have a heat retaining valve in the exhaust, that make noises like that. I had the same noise in my international, but after i removed that valve it never made that noise again, so that may be something to consider. hope this helps!
Sounds bad, like a rod is about to break. When you drop your oil pan, look for camshaft bearing debris in the pan. I would look very carefully at all the connecting rods. Also, would check the connecting rod bearings and main bearings. Very nice scenery where you live.
