From "Elstree Calling", perhaps the best known clip of Lily Morris.

  • MeabhMc: Don't waste your time. Lily Morris was an old-time music-hall (vaudeville if you're American) star and this is her interpretation of an old music-hall song. There is no "character", she doesn't have a name, personality or background and the situation is obvious from the words of the song. Just sing it as best you can!

  • she kick ass on X factor......

  • My Mum used to sing this to me just to make me laugh, such a lovely surprise to hear it again.

  • I have to admit I love all the Music Hall songs and wish I had been part of that life

  • We are very lucky that sound films started just in time to catch a handful of the late Victorian and Edwardian Music Hall performers. Some date from the early 1920's on De Forest sound films shot in the UK, some Performers died just too soon, like Marie Lloyd. Lily Morris was quite a character in real life, performing long into so called retirement.

  • @MeabhMc have you found out anything about it? I'm doing my grade and i have to talk about this song and yet i know nothing about the musical or the character!!!

  • @terencenunn35 Thank you very much! I thought there was a whole story behind the song!

  • Could someone tell me about the Character she plays in this: Name/ personality/ situation? Because I am performing it for an exam and would like to know about the Character's background? Please if you could as it would really help me out!?

  • I saw this on the TV when I was a youngster and thought it was the funniest thing I'd ever seen, it sparked an interest in British Music Hall. Thank you so much for posting this, it's brought back some very happy memories, it has been my party piece on occasion - LOL!
