Another scare at Boston Logan tonight as an Iberia A340 Flight 6166 abruptly aborts a take-off as an engine bursts into flames. I heard a loud and very unusual boom and looked over to see flames and smoke shooting out of at least one of the four engines. The plane roared to a halt as smoke continued to billow out of the engine. Pretty scary! Thankfully everyone was safe and the pilot - well, calm, cool and collected! • The aircraft affected by this technical problem was EC-HQN. It was seen in Madrid a few weeks ago sporting an all-white livery after going through a major check and just before being been returned to the lessor (Airbus). It was originally delivered brand-new by Airbus back in July 2001 and had flown with Iberia since then.

  • @Alf340 Wow - thank you so much for the insights and information. Very interesting - thank you for sharing!

  • Wow good thing everything went ok while in the air. Did they ever say what cause the engin failure?

  • @justkiddin08 I never saw any follow up in the news, and the plane was just sitting by the cargo area for several weeks people while worked on it. However, I had one theory from a very informed source. He suspected a compressor stall with a blown fan blade. He said this would have caused the very loud boom I heard and the subsequent flame from the engine and large amounts of smoke.

  • i was on this flight and they said everything was fine, clearly they lieddd.

  • @xJulie24xo So glad you and others were all safe!

  • @zonaGANGSTAofficial No airline takes off if an issue arrives during the takeoff roll, just because Iberia has got a good reputation in terms of maintanance doesn't mean they will have not failures. Every airline, no matter what kind of maintenance record they have will have issues at some point with their aircraft.

  • Is it just me or does Iberia has a lot of problems with the aircrafts even if they're from Airbus?

  • @MrTimodon what the fuck.

    why allah ...? LOL!

  • Passengers lie to the pilots too, we are no terrorist,s! Allah is big,,yeah yeah!:)

  • Same thing happened to Iberia at KORD (Chicago O'hare) a few years back, except it was a B747.

  • I flew an Iberia A343 (the "Rosa Chacel" one, to be exact) 1 year ago and since that day I wonder what woluld happen if 1 engine was lost at between V1 and V2...

  • shut em down!...que?....shut em godammit!

  • airbus aint exactly setting a great record.
