In the shore zone, it takes only the feeblest of waves to disturb sandy beach sediments, which can also quickly reduce visibility. This represents a real challenge for coral polyps, that may become smothered by the sediment, therefore struggle to obtain the necessary light for photosynthesis (Videographer: Mark Sharman for Beautiful Oceans, Deep End Media, mark@deependmedia.com)
