Recumbent bike can be very fast.

falling would suck and whats the advantage? besides getting to recline while rideing

Actually, more safe than upright bike when crash since this one is difficult to flip. Mostly slide when fall.

Adantages:

- Speed (aerodynamic, the lower the faster) and stable (esp downhill)

- Comfortable (esp. Back & Bottom when long ride)

- Relaxing (touring ride)

- More safe

Disadv.

- heavy (uphill is tough but treat as training), ~30-35lb

- visibility (difficult to be seen by others so mid- or high- racer is preferred if using on road or simply put a flag)

I still ride my uppy but bents are good fun to ride once you get the hang of them, if you ever get the chance give 1 or a few a go, you won't regret it if you like cycling!

the worst injury I've ever encountered when falling from a recumbent was landing on my coccyx which was quite excrucitating on a SWB. No pain on a LWB as the fairing cushioned the fall. It is mainly injuries to the lower torso a recumbent rider will experience with falls. I've been flipped over the handle bars on my uprights lost a couple of teeth and count myself lucky as the injuries could have been far worse, though I do wear a helmet on all rides.
