Over time, Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease, or GERD, can lead to Barretts esophagus, dysplasia or even esophagus cancer (adenocarcinoma.) This video shows how cancer may gradually invade the esophagus, other organs and lymph nodes, progressing from early-stage disease to locally advanced disease to late-stage disease. It also discusses tests to locate cancer in the body, including a CT scan, PET scan, PET/CT scan and endoscopic ultrasound, and methods of treating cancer. Mayo Clinic has a very large team with an international reputation for its skill in diagnosing and treating reflux, Barretts esophagus and esophagus cancer.
