I get a lot of questions on this topic, so let's cover some basics in Ableton Live, specifically how to use Session View vs Arrangement View.

  • Just to bother you a bit more, is there any specific plugin you can recommend for nice kicks?

This seems to be the only think I am missing, since the standard kicks are quite boring in Ableton :P

    Regards

    johnny

  • For kicks I only use samples. The standard answer is usually the Vengeance Club Sounds sample cds, but also check out the Thomas Penton sample cds. There's a lot of good stuff on both!

  • Hi Jazper,

I am not sure of you've been asked this before, but do you use any plugins?

I've only worked with Fruity Loops until now, but your tutorials made me want to try this one out, since I liked the interface of it.

I already have Vanguard, Pro 53 and z3ta for Fruity loops, and I am not sure of I can use these for Ableton.

Anyway, just thought I would ask, and sorry if you have already answered this before :)

  • Yes you can. Since Ableton Live version 4 it supports the VST standard, so if you have those synths installed, they should already be available in Ableton once you install it.

  • also it seems that no matter how i lay out the intro to my track everything plays at once rather than in the order i lay it down. any help?

  • You need to push the red button in arrangement view. When it's red it only plays from session view. It's covered in this video, no?

  • Scenes are good.... XD

  • Hey man, you seem to be a real expert with ableton!!! I ve got one problem:

When I ve got clips in the Arrangement-View for editing and then switch back to Session View to start a clip, all clips in the A.V. are playing as well!!! Is it possible to mute that somehow or do I have to delete the clips in A.V. everytime after editing, when I want to continue in S.V.?

I hope you understand what I mean and hopefully you can help me!!!!

    Cheers from Austria :)

  • Thank You for making this :) It saved me allot of frustration

  • Can yuo make the same tutorial for Fruity loops Studio? Thanks!

  • thanks nice video, helped alot!

  • man you are the best. i like your tutorials. i'm going crazy. i want more tutorials about this.

  • thank you for such a wonderful tutorial. I have yet to find a tutorial that would explain the arrangement process.

  • Also "shift" plus "tab" will switch between the "clip" and "track" view on the bottom, which is very handy
