Two years after his gold medal performance in Mexico over the 400 metres hurdles,Hemery dropped back down to win the 110 metres gold at the 1970 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, defending the title he had won four years previously. Can't imagine anyone else going up and down the two hurdle distances with such success?

  • He's not bald but he still has a Rab C Nesbiit comb-over!

  • Top man David Hemery, so sporting going to check that his team mate is OK!

  • I don’t know about success at both events if its measured on gold medals but Alan Pascoe was pretty decent at both as well – 1971 European silver & 1969 European bronze at 110mH and 1974 European gold at 400mH, the only difference being he did the shorter event first and moved up after 1972. Hemery himself also won a European 110mH silver in his time as well – the year after Mexico.
