Ukraine is situated in the Eastern Europe. Is second biggest country in Europe. According to european standarts, Ukraine considered a poor country. Ukraine's GDP ( PPP ) is ranked 29th in the world, althought actually GDP may be much higher, 'cause country has very large size of the " underground economy ". Today less than 2% of the population lives under 1,25 US dollar a day ( for compare: in South Africa over 26 % population living under 1.25 (PPP) a day )
Also like and South Africa, Ukraine is rich in natural resources, such as iron ore, coal, color metal, oil, gas, mineral salts, clay and potential water power. It has developed a varied industry and produces planes and ships, lorries and buses, motorcars and locomotives, computer and electronic equipment, precision instruments and agricultural machines, TV and radioset, chemicals and textiles and various consumer goods.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By UN classification South Africa is a middle-income country with an abundant supply of resources, well-developed financial, legal, communications, energy, and transport sectors, a stock exchange that ranks among the top twenty in the world , and a modern infrastructure supporting an efficient distribution of goods to major urban centres throughout the entire region. But unemployment is extremely high and South Africa is ranked in the top 10 countries in the world for income inequality. Advanced development is significantly localised around four areas: Cape Town, Port Elizabeth , Durban , and Pretoria /Johannesburg. Beyond these four economic centres, development is marginal and poverty is still prevalent
South Africa became the first country (followed by Ukraine) with nuclear capability to voluntarily renounce and dismantle its programme and in the process signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty in 1991.

  • Just imagine, South Africa after long time under soviet regime. I believe it would be now in big trouble. This is not quite smart comparison. First they need to overcome heavy baggage of Soviet regime and then try to compare.

  • @lebammabel i just want to compare. for both countries 1990's was time of changes - Ukraine became a democracy and independent , South Africa transitioned from the system of apartheid to one of majority rule.

  • Sigh... Poor areas of Africa and Asia will never even come close to how decent even the Poorest areas of Europe...

African and Asian Poverty is lightyears worse than European Poverty, and I don't really think this will happen in my grandchildren's lifetimes let alone my lifetime...

  • @SamuelJoaodaSuica yes, look my new video: "Poorest country in Europe vs. Poorest country in Africa - Moldova vs. Niger" watch?v=wAtMtAhgUjk

  • slums in Ukraine? in Ukraine there is no trailer parks and nasty slums... Even in poorest areas ukrainian largest cities you may see bench and trees, and people live with regular light, clean and steady water supply and these areas relatively safe.. just it's old soviet-era buildings, do not look like slums. Ukraine has suffered in the past century more than majority european countries and its economy isn't the best now.

  • God damn, will Africa ever stop sucking so badly?

  • Last time I looked, Post Nelson Mandella South Africa was no. one in the world per capita in rape, murder, car jackings etc.. (violent crime).. or close to no. 1.

I don't really understand, I thought Mandella is celebrated as some kind of good man that made things better, but from all I've heard, it seems to have went down the tubes.

  • @SteinUndStahl666 not as long as wars, racism and destroying the environment for money and other riches continue.when that ends, then progression can start.

  • @cinenglland the west is dependant on alot of other countries besides african nations. India, China, Brazil, now china is getting hip to that game so there is some serious trouble ahead for the west as China has partnered with alot of subsaharan african nations.

  • uh why do you have south africa as the rich african country, do your homework its Seychelles

  • @blaquecherry419 My facts right?? Whole Africa has enough resources, just like Afganistan or Iran......and it's pretty clear that resources doesn't make the difference in rich or poor.

It's about how you use those resources.

  • It would be interesting to see how Africa would change if the West was not so dependent on African resources
