@jrkidd3 The absurd idea of this all conversation is the indoctrinated mindset that there is such thing as America vs. Socialism: America IS A SOCIALIST state, or better union of states! And it has always been since conception since socialism means shared resources but also laws restricting individual freedoms, there's freer countries in the world than the US on both taxes paid and personal freedoms, it's just a matter of where resources and laws are aimed for, it's simple as that.

@jrkidd3 ..over half of the GDP towards the system than the states do, so that means you still give almost TWICE as much in taxes than the British do towards something that you basically don't have, somehow the the sums don't add up.
Maybe it's time to really cut the indoctrination bullshit and look at the rest of the world just like the rest of the world has looked at america and learned few things in the past, sorry but that is the only way things can change for better for all of us.

@jrkidd3 We can compare as much as we want but the truth is we no longer live in that reality so trying to make comparisons between then and now is pure stupidity: I really wish we would destroy all the idiotic divisive flags that we created and now worship to go back to a system based on simple communities and mutual help but unfortunately this is the world you got so you can only think for the best option for your fellow human beings regardless of judgements and prejudice towards -->

@Professicchio If socialism is justified because it is an emulation of 1st century Christianity, what else about about Christianity would your average socialist, liberal or progressive suggest should be emulated by the government? Would just a little acknowledgement that Jesus Christ is lord of all be to much to ask for? I mean, if you'r going to say that socialism is in accordance with His teaching for justification, then why not embrace ALL of His teachings? To inconvenient for a socialists?
-
@Professicchio To compare 1st century Christianity to socialism is an error. The first century Christians shared because of love of Christ first and love of fellow man second, They were not coerced by government enforced economic policies. They also believed that if one would not work, neither should they eat, but socialist and liberals don't preach on that point. Yes, Christianity today is not what it is supposed to be but 1st century Christianity was love driven. Enforced socialism is tyranny

@michellelovelace1 I guess you consider giving to the government almost TWICE as much as the British do towards healthcare a gesture of "wilful charity", hey were is the gun when you need one?
-
@jrkidd3 You can disagree as much as you want to but the plain reality is that not just in the 1st century, but the in 2nd, 3rd and 4th, Christian communities were nothing more than socialist communes in which anything was shared and there was no place for ego-driven enterprise, that is until it became a nationalized religion first with the acceptance from the Roman empire and after with the rise of something called the Catholic church, the tune started to sound different afterwards.

@jrkidd3
I am Christian. I use the NHS.
My great-grandfather was one of the old-school Attlee-type socialists, back before we got like the Americans and started to confuse socialism with communism.
My great-grandfather always used to say that Jesus was a socialist. I'm inclined to agree. I think if Jesus was alive back in 1948, he would shake Nye Bevan by the hand.
