i was born hearing. I became deaf at 10 years old. Right after I lost my hearing completely, my dad and mom had seen this movie on the big screen. Later my dad wanted me to watch it with him (of course, he fast-forward through the making out parts -- so I hadn't seen those until years later). After the movie was my first time to learn how to sign the alphabet. I asked him how he knew it. He said he had a friend during his elementary school days whose dad was deaf and in a wheelchair.

It's funny how she looks great in the movie, but then for the Academy Awards she looks like a middle-aged librarian in a princess halloween costume. She should have just worn the dress she has on a 6:07 in this video, it's a million times better

Wow, she is extraordinary.

There's a movie you may enjoy called "After The Silence" you may enjoy. Unfortunately, it's not on Youtube.

@Rainy64 Yeah, I'm still devastated about that. Who knows when I'll bounce back.

@deanriam NO wonder they removed your comments.

@Rainy64 Oh I'm sorry, I forgot I had to be a film actor to have an opinion. Go fuck yourself.

@reflectionsinwa Keep going-- when you get a conversation that you understand every nuance \ Keep going....I remember the first deaf person I spoke with and....well that was 1978....8th grade- I'm not 47- raising a daughter.... IT never gets old-I'm an interpreter..I STILL love it!

@deanriam Have you been in any movies lately? She had a stage career in plays when she was discovered!

I'll never forget when I first saw this movie when it showed in theaters. I was a senior in high school, and I couldn't keep my eyes off Marlee Matlin, in every scene she was in. "Who IS this actress?" I thought. She expressed so much sharp intelligence in her eyes and it was THAT which made her alluring; I wasn't used to seeing that quality in movie actresses and saw the film twice just because of her.
This long montage reminds me of it, and the time.
Good work!
