The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation recently awarded SBBI, Inc. a contract for the construction of a fish barrier across a river near Clifton, Arizona. "The Bureau of Reclamation wouldn't allow building roads to get equipment into this remote area, so that meant using helicopters to airlift two 300D ADTs, two 550J Crawlers, two 444K Loaders, two Sakai rollers, two 2,000-gallon water trucks, two 8,000-pound Gehl reach forklifts, and two CT332s," said RDO Equipment Co. Tucson branch General Manager Jay Izienicki.
But as Jay explains, as large as the helicopters are, there's a lot more to an airlift than just hooking up a rope. "Most of the equipment needed disassembly by SBBI and our service technicians, then reassembly on the banks of the Blue River. In fact, this site is so remote, 'man camps' were put together so the workers - including our employees - could stay there and work with a minimum of expensive helicopter rides."
