Got the radio just after posting that last message and it's looking good. Seems to be working well, but will wait to take the exam before trying anything beyond a dummy load. The battery is dead, so had to order another. All else seems fine (at least at the moment). Can't complain since I got it cheap from an old friend who owns a lot of older radios. He knew I liked this radio (saw it at his house) and offered it after learning I was thinking about getting back into ham radio.

Thanks Terry, I am situated at 1000ft asl with a good take off especially to the west. Get some big signals from across your side.

Just purchased a Yaesu FT-767GX (in the mail to me now), which I plan to restore to everyday use. Enjoyed watching your rig at work and hope mine performs as well. Working on my General license and will perhaps hear from you during a future contest. 73 de W5NET (Heidelberg DE).

Hi Stewart, Good luck on your General hope to work you one day ;-)
The FT 767GX is Very good on HF but a Little bit deaf and out dated on VHF. Besides that I love using the Robust, quality sounding. reliable. FT-767, (owned for the last 6+ years) on all of the HF bands .Enjoy yours and good DXing 73
