MMA trainer and former kickboxer Duke Roufus talks to Luke Thomas of MMA Fighting about the state of striking in mixed martial arts, where it's headed and why it's changing. He also makes the case for why his star student Anthony Pettis will defeat UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo standing when the two fight in August.

great interview Luke. I love to hear trainers get technical, and love that you know enough about the sport to ask technical questions. I get tired of interviews that are all about a fighter's personal life. I like fighting, not drama or gossip.

Again, big thumbs up! More of this, please.

I love this match up and Duke, but... If you think Pettis isn't going to be phased by Jose's kicks and to go as far as saying that he is even faster than Aldo (20:45) I think it's safe to say you'll be in for a rude awakening. Regardless, this is even more of an exciting match up than Edgar, hopefully this one gets a Primetime!

Deadly, are you the coach for Aldo? Aldo wont be longer, faster or taller than Pettis. Bad match up for Aldo. On paper its a good fight, but reality is that Pettis is a better all around fighter than Aldo. I know its hard to wrap your head around it because Aldo is champ.

Good points. I think Its going to boil down to Aldo's cardio in rounds 4 and 5

Aldo is my favorite fighter but if he doesn't have the gas for rounds 4 and 5 he is going to be in trouble. I think Aldo lost the last two rounds to Edgar because of that

I have to respectfully disagree. Language is suffering in these days of 'urban' culture.

I appreciate that Luke chooses his words so carefully.

Hey, Luke Thomas! Stop with the unnecessarily flowery language; it makes you sound like a douche. 'More ubiquitous', for example. You just sound like a pretentious idiot talking like that. You seem like a good guy, overall - who knows his stuff.

Occham's Razor: Keep it simple. I'm sure you're proud of yourself for knowing big words, but if you really want to sound intelligent only use them when it's entirely necessary. & calm your tonality and volume down; that is also a bit much.

    Good interview
