Long-tailed Macaw of Ubut ~ Sigur Ros

In Ubut, Bali, there's an area of old forest that is sacred to Balinese Hindus. The three groups of monkeys that live there are revered, and some fantastic Hindu temples, monuments, statues of dragons, bridges, & other Hindu figures stand covered in moss. It's become a bit of a tourist trap - because it's really amazing. A monkey climbed up my friend & tried to steal her necklace. I grabbed a stick &, after showing us his large, interlocking fangs, he leapt off into the woods. Later, a Hindu man who had been watching scolded me for threatening a monkey with a stick - but also mentioning that the monkeys occasionally will gang up on people who threaten them.
