This short film is a video response to the Cantocourse series made by Cecilie Gamst Berg in her on-going quest to make Cantonese a world language. I applaud her mission. Speaking as a student of Cantonese and other languages, Cantonese rocks!!! It is a beautiful, elegant, and completely logical language. And anyone, especially anyone living in Hong Kong, who doesn't share in this language is missing out. Regardless, thus impressed by Cecilie Gamst Berg, I sought out her first novel BLONDE LOTUS and read it. It is an intriguing and heartfelt book that doesn't hold back anything. This video response is a review of the book in Cantonese at the Chungking Mansion, in which parts of the book are set. My tones are bad, and I'm butchering a lot of the Cantonese, but learning a language, by definition, means making mistakes. This short film is also the 15th film in my on-going quest to make one short film per day about life in Hong Kong. Both Cecilie Gamst Berg and the Chungking Mansion are Hong Kong institutions, so I feel like I killed many birds with one stone. If more foreigners in Hong Kong were like her, things would be so much better. Thank you, Cecilie. You rock! Enjoy!!!

  • I'm still reading BLONDE LOTUS. Cecilie Gamst Berg really touches my Cantonese heart. It is the first time for me to read about a Norwegian, who loves our language so much. I'm also really in love with the Norwegian language and I'm still learning it. Perhaps one day I will meet her, and then I would tell her how great her work for our Cantonese people is. Tusen takk Cecilie, jeg elsker denne bok. ;)
