News 12 Long Island - "Ken Grimball" Live Traffic Report (1988)

I had the pleasure of meeting Ken Grimball in very rare and unusual way. I always watched channel 12 news each morning to get the current traffic report before heading out to work as a limousine driver. I recall passing Ken each morning on Great Neck Rd, Amityville, NY. (which overlooks the Southern State Parkway) where Ken did his live traffic report.

I remember this one particular morning it was brutally cold. While watching the news, I heard Ken Grimball say,"It's so cold out here, I wish someone would drop me off some hot chocolate". That's just what I did.

He was so ecstatic by my kindness, he left a message on my answering machine that evening. He not only thanked me again, but stated that he would mention my name live on the air. The rest is history. I did this for no other reason, except to be a nice guy that I am. This footage was from 1988.

By the way, Ken Grimball is one of the nicest gentleman I had the pleasure of meeting.He's also an excellent opera singer.

I have personally known Ken since 1988 when he started attending my church. You are totally correct, he is one of the nicest gentlemen I ever met. I have a few videos up online here from 1995 with Ken in them at some church functions. He is an amazing singer, he used to sing for us at church all the time. Such talent and a very professional man. I used to talk to him about television production whenever I could.
