In 2007, to honor the life of Clash founder Joe Strummer, English folk hero Billy Bragg launched Jail Guitar Doors, a program that provides instruments to inmates serving time in the United Kingdom. Bragg brought JGD to America in 2009, asking Wayne Kramer, guitar God from the MC5 who served time in the mid 70s. Before the two teamed up, though, Billy asked Wayne if he was familiar with the Clash song, Jail Guitar Doors, which his rehabilitative initiative was based.
