Staten Islands very own groundhog, Charles G. Hogg, a.k.a. Staten Island Chuck recently celebrated his prediction of an early spring. The furry forecaster has been correct 22 out of 29 times.
He began his day greeting a crowd of onlookers who braved the cold. Mayor Michael Bloomberg and City Council Speaker Christine Quinn were in attendance to join in the festivities, as was Congressman Michael E. McMahon, Staten Island Advance Editor Brian Laline and the Zoos Director, John Caltabiano.
After delivering the good news, Chuck traveled to Borough Hall to meet with Borough President James P. Molinaro and students from P.S. 35, Sunnyside, and Cub Scout Pack 36.
He was also able to visit with DOT Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan and Congressman Michael McMahon before returning home from a hard days work.
