The Holy See is interested in whats going on in FAO and IFA and I have the impression the organization wants to hear what the Holy See has to say from the spiritual point of view.

Monsignor Renato Volante is the Permanent Observer to the FAO at the Vatican. A title hes held for 7 years.

7 years in which hes seen world hunger grow to historic levels.

its growing worse in absolute numbers so far this is the worst time. We have more than 1 billion people suffering from hunger in the world.

According to the U.N agency every six seconds a child dies of hunger.

To feed the hungry it is in the gospel, it is one of the teachings of the gospel to everybody who wants to follow Jesus Christ.

Monsignor Volate is at the summit to present the Catholic Churchs point of view on the critical problem, since he says missionaries are often the best sources of information.

Mosignor Volante points out the economic crisis coupled with lack of transportation and investment in the agricultural sector are some of the biggest obstacles.

For example, in Africa, they only use 4% of water available is used because there are no channels theres no way to transport the water to where it is needed.

FAO estimates food production will have to increase by 70 percent and developing countries will have to invest billions to eradicate hunger by the year 2050.

An ambitious goal that is the core of the summit.

But one that will take action on the part of developing countries to be reached.
