(WELLINGTON, Kan.)—
At a time when they would normally be working, the employees of 'Jeffrey's Lawn Care' can only look at the spot where their equipment should be parked.

"We walked outside and were like, 'where's the trailer at?'"

Two mowers are all that's left of the business 18 year-old Jeff McGuire started five years ago. Thieves made off with his trailer and $5,000 worth of equipment, sometime last weekend. Leaving McGuire and his one employee without jobs.

"It's just disappointing because I was going to sell it when I graduated and get a motorcycle or cheap car or just keep it and go to welding school and use it to pay my way through school. That's not going to happen now, I suppose."

So between filing police reports, the two are filling out job applications. McGuire still owes money on a loan he took out to buy some of the gear, and unless it turns up, 'Jeffrey's Lawn Care,' will be out of business.

"We put out a pawn alert on it so they can't pawn it now. I don't know, it could show up, I guess."

But he says it's hard to be hopeful after someone takes everything you've worked hard to get.

"To work for five years, and hopefully build up equity in something, only to end up with a loss - it's just been been kind of disappointing."

Anyone with information is asked to call the Wellington Police Department at 620-326-3331 or Sumner County CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS
