Up the Titan Crane, Dee-Dee-stylee (Limmy's Show)
On Saturday, 01 May 2010, I (Iain McGuinness) abseiled the 150-foot Titan Crane, at Queens' Quay, Clydebank, in aid of ENABLE Scotland. The charity campaigns for a better life for children and adults with learning disabilities, and supports them and their families to live, work and take part in their communities. On the same day, my new walking tours company, clyde walking tours™, was launched.
This is my vlog of the experience.
The Titan Crane is located on the site of the former John Brown & Co. shipyard, beside the River Clyde. It is very similar to the Finnieston Crane, which can be found further upstream, at Stobcross, in Finnieston, hence the Dee Dee (Limmy's Show) references.
It was built in 1907, and was designed to be used in the lifting of heavy equipment, such as engines, during the fitting-out of battleships and ocean liners. It is now open as a tourist attraction.
