Luther as a monk tormented by the fact that he couldnt keep Gods law perfectly until he read in Romans (bible) that we are forgiven because christ paid for our sins on the cross. The church made up ideas and concepts that were not biblical. Luther was outraged and only sought to correct that, not start a war with the church. Should have talked to a lutheran pastor or professer. I was raised and educated Lutheran and work for lutheran church. The video is great just lacking info

@CapitanoGUC wrong century. Martin Luther King Jr was in 1929-1968 and fought for civil rights and equality. Martin Luther the Reformer is 1483-1546 fought the against false teachings in the Catholic Church which was teaching people they had to pay to recieve forgiveness of sins and to pay their way to heaven. was the start a number of protestant churches. Two differant men both with huge impacts on history.

No, you do not understand indulgences. When the is confessed to the priest it is FORGIVEN. But there is still consequence for sin. The alcoholic has harmed his family and his relationships. He doesn't get his marriage back because God has forgiven him or restore his childrens self esteem. He suffers, he has damaged society and the purpose of penances and indulgences is to bring about God's grace to rights some of the damage done by sin. Not forgiveness.

For the record, rather than saying that Luther believed that people should gladly accept the consequences of sin, that he objected to paying for grace. Indulgences were essentially a way to buy God's forgiveness, and Luther insisted that forgiveness was a free gift.
