Hi there! Since my other community Betta tank got over 1,000 views (YAY!) I searched my computer and found more clips of my old tank. Hopefully you will find this helpful.

Here is a link to the breeding container I found at petsmart: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2751023

About the tank:
I had this tank about two years ago and it is a ten gal, long tank. It was a low light planted tank with a submersible filter (it only did mechanical filtration). In it I had 6 female Betta, 4 Lamp eye tetras, and I later added 1 male Betta. It was an easy to keep tank and everyone got along. Unfortunately after two years my fish got infected with an internal parasite and died. I was too slow to notice the problem and didn't add the medicine fast enough. After that the tank was moved into my bedroom where I made it into a Amazon fish tank. I also own two other tanks and have read a few books about fish. I am still not a pro at fish keeping and am learning more everyday.

Advice:
When buying fish always check if they are healthy. Also look at the Bettas temperament. If he/she is trying to attack other fish then do not get one. Try to get the calm ones. YES, fish do have different personalities and some are more aggressive while some are less. I have even read online about some people that have large community tanks and have multiple male Bettas and they get along. Although I would not suggest that on your first try. One male is enough.
I have also heard about fish getting "depressed" when kept in a small bowl. While a fish may not be as smart as a dog they do have some intelligence. If you do some research you would be surprised! So please try to make your fish happy and make their environment interesting and nice.

Good fish to keep with Bettas:
When buying fish to keep with bettas only get ones that can swim fast, live in schools, and have short fins (last one is very important!)
Community fish feel safer in a group and this prevents the betta from attacking a single fish. Also due to their long fins, bettas aren't the fastest swimmers so if you get fish that swim fast they will be safe.
Lastly if fish have long fins (like guppies for example) the bettas will see them as rivals and will want to attack them.

Good fish to keep with them are:
Lamp eyed tetra
Cardinal Tetra
Zebra Danio

If you get these fish you should get a minimum of 3 although 5 is a lot better.

  • Can betta live with goldfish?

  • @chrisdinskates no. Cold water fish (goldfish) cannot be with tropical fish (bettas)

  • do female bettas get along? if not what other fish ar okay?

  • @Rosa13Lie generally they are mildly aggressive and will get along if they have room in a tank. Tetras are best for them.

  • I don't have a lot of plants in my 10 gallon guppy aquarium and I'm planning to get a Betta and small tank. What should I do?

  • @armory365 You can get some fake plants maybe? I think that hiding places really help.

  • nice tank! could I ask what the plant is which is growing on the wood and just below the water?

  • Wait, hold on, if that's only 10 gallons, then how are you able to keep 6 females, 4 tetras, and 1 male in it with no fights and/or breeding?! That sounds a bit overcrowded, but then again, it's a long tank. IDK, at least your fishes seem happy! :)

  • make more betta videos. i just started. i have one male and i just got 2 female. im working on introducing them like you showed in this video.

  • Wht if the male gets away from the female and then goes back to her and attacks her and does thaqt over and over again?
