  • It depends on how much the portfolio will be handled. I usually advise my students to make portfolios that are modular/easily modified, so the portfolio can be tailored to the interview. A perfect binding, of course, is not that. Also a perfect binding is structurally weak, especially if the book will be handled a lot. I would probably go with a screw post binding for a portfolio on heavy matte paper. Good luck.

  • The glue should hold, although perfect bindings will never be as structurally sound as a sewn book. With use and over time, the pages tend to fall out.

  • I think that 7 pages is far to few to hold in a perfect bound book. You need enough pages to create at least a small spine.

  • I will definitely be trying this out! Thank you so much! I did have a question, though. Is the glue used for the cover Elmers glue? Are there other glues good for the cover? Elmer's glue doesn't sound like it would be all that sturdy.

  • Any white glue should work, even Elmers. I usually use PVA (polyvinyl acetate), because it is acid-free. Any good art supply store should have this.

  • I think that 10 pages will not give you a thick enough text block. You need some width to the spine in order for the book to hold together and have some structural integrity.

  • Hi, does this method work for a portfolio of 34+ sheets (69 pages)? The paper is premium presentation matte paper, and I have trimmed the pages down to 8"x10". Thanks!

  • Great help. Can the glue hold about 40pages A4 size papers? I take it I'll have to carefully measure the thickness of the sheets of paper before folding the cover?

  • I would like to know if you could make a tutorial on how to make a bound book with say 50+ pages thanks all the best.

  • Hi! Do you know if this will work for a book of 7 pages made out of card stock matte paper? Say 11 by 17 each? Thank you :).

  • Hi

I chop my books to make digital copies of them, because I like to read them on my computer or my smart phone. But then I feel really bad about throwing them away because I cant bind them back. If you could please tell me how to glue 500 pages into a book cover, I would be very thankful. I want to give my reassembled books to other students for free.

  • Thank you :)

  • lol like a art history book made me laugh
