It's letterbox really (black bars on top and bottom). I don't know why YouTube started putting the extra black bars on the sides.

I hook the Wii video output up to a video capture card I got years ago -- an AlchemyTV DVR. Probably not a very common thing these days now that digital video cameras are more widespread.
