I'd had a serious car accident the day before this ride, fracturing a couple ribs. I rode anyway. I like to keep my promises, and I'd made a promise to a number of children with cancer and their families. I couldn't finish, but I made it 35 mi out of the 50 (a pickup w/ bad exhaust gassed me and I had a coughing fit, which did in my ribs).

Unfortunately, I don't have more video of the event. The batteries of the cam died at ~16 miles, and my spares were somewhere in my totaled car.

  • You have been so quiet lately. Everyone ok?

  • @Festool4 Yeah. Just busy. Breaking in my new bike, studying, working. Plus the weather's been AWFUL the past 2 weeks, yet I've commuted by bicycle in it anyway. It was -17F one day, and we've been getting a lot of snow. Hardly ideal for a racing bike. I've been exhausted when I get home. Also, had pneumonia for a month between mid December-Mid January, so I was down and out for a few weeks. Better now, but just riding myself ragged in these weather conditions.

  • wow, more beautiful country side. The benefits must be out of this world if you choose to ride, even after an accident. I don't know if I could have done that. I live so close to Colorado, and have never been there. LOL!! only in the Denver Airport. :) it would be awesome to visit some of these places.

  • @grandplans Well, should you come visit, know you'll always have a friend to show you the best places!

  • @CircaRigeI - as I stated before, I used to ride bike all over in Missouri, well, the small town I lived in anyway and about a 10 mile radius. Are there places there to rent bikes and go for a ride? I'd sure need to take it easy though. I've let myself go big time. ha ha ha ha ha!!! I'd pass out if I tried to do what you do. :)

  • @grandplans Plenty of places for bicycle rentals and demos. I know at least four within a 5 mile radius of me. Not sure if you heard, but Denver even has a bike share program (Maes- who DIDN'T win as governor- thinks it's an international plot).

  • @pdutube Thanks. My one regret is that I was unable to enjoy it more, due to the injuries. The Aspen were at their peak. Make that two regrets... I'd been unable to find my spare batteries in the car after the accident, so I didn't get as much video as I'd have liked, especially of the gorgeous Maroon Bells.

Still looking for a decent car- and ruing the fact that I won't be able to afford a new bicycle now.

  • Awesome job in your no doubt painful ride, that's inspirational in itself! I got a kick out of the onward-march fist pump at 4:22 ! I hope you get better soon.
