  • Haha this is brilliant

  • he is hilarious!!!! he manages to make learning irish interesting!! ill never be able to look at my irish teacher with a straight face while she is revising over about the modh coinniolach now!!!

  • hahaha. Mr Bishop has a point there! That said, Irish is still a feckin hard lanuage! But i suppose the modh Conniollach isn't the most scariest bit! i agree, the genitive case n stuff is worse!

  • so true

  • As he may still be alive I'd rather not embarras the f***er . And despite the fisticuffs he genuinely was'nt a bad teacher and did the best he could with what he had . A different Ireland from the present !

  • He's no longer in the Dail . He was a TD for one or two Dails . A right proper bollix too :) . A believer in the 'forced ' learning technique . His father must have been a Christian Brother and his mother no doubt Mother Superior of the No Mercy Sisters of No Charity for thickos ;)

  • Who's the TD??

  • The pupil now terrified beyond all trauma finally spluttered out a few higs and hocks and then the open palm of a very heavy hand came crashing down to smack the back of his head and send him careering into a corner of the classroom . At the same time the teacher lambasted the pupil with the witheriing put down remark of sounding like a chicken with the whooping cough .

That pupil still hates Irish . The teacher meanwhile went on to become an elected FG TD in Dail Eireann .

  • Des Bishop while hilarious has never had to endure a big red faced Kilkenny man standing behind you in class while you try to remember does the verb end in hig or hock ( tiocfaidh or tiocfadh) . I recall one very nervous classmate repeating chuckhig chuckhock several times while simultaneously looking over his shoulder to see if the teacher's huge hand was in the attack mode

After what seemed an eternity of higging and hocking the teacher finally exploded .

'Which is it ye amadan '?

  • hahaha , funny!!!
