Inventor is good for mechanical designing. SW - for beginners. Use CATIA its more multifaceted (shipbuilding, aircraft construction etc). Its not a commercial, just my opinion
I work for a company as a 3D designer and we have both SW and Inventor. I have used both and think Inventor is more user friendly. SW has some easier features to it but overall I still like Inventor better.
any designer who has worked with SolidWorks will agree that Inventor workflow is sooo cumbersome with constant right mouse click/menu selection...
Inventor needs to improve UI quite a lot in order to catch up with SolidWorks. If you work 10 hours a day with Cad software, and do the same things over and over and over again, even 2-3 mouse clicks for one operation make a big difference, trust me...
