@micronoid Reilly does a great job of using bold and italics whenever someone does something especially awesome, which really helps in getting you involved in the scene. Plus, there's always maps of the areas each book is set in, so you can follow along where everyone is.
I read fantasy and sci-fi but I always struggle when reading action in books, particularly battles scenes. Whenever one does comes up I equate it to watching a news reporter describing a battle taking place off camera instead of point the camera at the battle itself, and that can come off as boring to me. I'm not sure what a writer can do to make it so its not like that. I'm going through the Shannara series by terry brooks and happens at times, i still enjoy the other parts of the story though
