Today it's hard hats hi viz safety wellies etc for a lot of jobs and all because of overzealous h&s!

@meanvince Well said and well put my friend

"I was criticised for saying I'd had a few pints before I climbed up - but I'd like to say... well, you want to try this job sober?"
Classic!
-
The modern obsession with H&S that Fred complained about - all that crap is part of the trend of parasitic lawyers who are ready to sue industry sideways just because you got a splinter in your finger. Fred would rather pull the splinter out and get the job done than take 6 months off while the suits talk about compensation.
What happened to getting a good job done and smiling about it at the end of the day with your dirty, bloody hand clutching your pint of well-earned beer?

Try working where i'm at:...
I've spent weeks cutting flooring for the risers, plywood cut as a temporary safety measure until the floors replaced then the boards slid out,max gap 200mm.......
Easy and safe job?,apparently not according to the thick Lithuanian safety officer....
The clown stated that we now have to use two acro-props with a full sheet of 1/4 inch plywood nailed to it and to balance it literally on it's feet below us as our safety device..
As for Fred:Absolute legend!!!!!.

h&s = nanny state. The dumbing down process has well and truly begun!
Latest 'pc' bullshit : new legislation passed on discrimination defies belief.
This friggin country has got to be the most OVER legislated place on earth.
Google latest government legislation at the workplace.
Nowadays, Health & Safety is more fiddlesome and over the top, it sometimes backfires.
