Embryos that are cultured in an incubator (in vitro) can be transferred back into the uterus after 2-6 days. A very thin, flexible plastic catheter is inserted through your cervix and, with the help of a small syringe, the embryo is injected into the uterus. If it attaches to the wall of the uterus (the endometrium) then the implanted developing embryo will release a chemical (beta-HCG) signaling the pregnancy.
