Coal is soft and made of carbon. Diamonds are made of carbon as well, but are hard. It stands to reason that if you compress a soft carbon enough, it will become a hard carbon.

I have created a device, that, upon inserting coal, will use pistons to compress the lump of coal for a very quick time. Hopefully my pistons will create enough pressure on the coal to turn it into a diamond.
