George described this exercise as dressage circle work, with little fences.
This is a supplying exercise that really puts the horse on its hocks. It does ask some questions of the horse, but to quote George, if you dont ask the questions, you will never get resistance and never progress. But submission is not aggressive.
Four small fences were placed at 12, 3, 6 and 9 oclock of a 20 meter circle, with the outside wing right on the outside line of the circle. Riders began the exercise by circling and jumping two of the four fences and then incorporating all four fences; the optimum being a smooth circle with three strides between the fences. This was also a good exercise for the use of outside leg and inside opening rein. Listen to George explain.
