The royal palace at Fontainebleau in France was has architectural elements from the 16th to the 19th century. Located about 40 miles south of the city and accessible by train in only 45 minutes. Loved by French kings for its closeness to great hunting opportunities, the Château de Fontainbleau makes a delightful side trip from Paris. The palace was Napoleon's favorite residence.

  • I'm visiting Fontainebleau next month (February 2011) and I hope it's open even during this winter season. I love castles and this Renaissance era chateaux is so beautiful. It has so much history. Several French kings lived here: Francois I, Louis the 15th, and Emperors Napoleon I and Napoleon the 3rd. Swedish Queen CristinaItalian lover was brutally murdered inside Fontainebleau (which opens up the possibility of his ghost haunting this site!) LOL

  • Merveilleux chateau Fontainebleau, j'ai eu la chance de voir le théatre qu'Eugénie a fait construire, il va etre fermé au public pour etre restaurer
