I hope you enjoy my D'Addario vs. Ernie Ball string comparison video. If you think my videos are helpful, consider making a small donation through my website: http://www.dmometalguitar.com

Using my Jackson King V KV2 guitar and Line 6 amplifier (built-in Insane distortion mode), I compare the sound of DAddario ProSteels and Ernie Ball Stainless Steel strings. I use the bridge pickup - Seymour Duncan JB TB-4.

Both DAddario ProSteels and Ernie Ball Stainless Steel have a bright, powerful sound. Theyre perfectly suited for heavy music mainly when played with passive pickups.

Personally, I dont recommend these string sets for active EMGs. Because of their high output, EMGs create a dirtier sound and excessive oscillation with certain string brands. The third chapter of my EMG vs. Seymour Duncan video discusses the issue in detail. Ernie Ball's and D'Addario's nickel wound strings sound a lot better with EMGs in my opinion.

  • How can you get any depth out of a pussy gauge like .009 - .042 ? Those aren't strings, they're rubber bands

  • @AcouBass I hear ya. The same principle holds true for bass as does for guitar: heavier strings give you a heavier sound. This is especially crucial to know when you play guitars/basses rigged with single coil pickups.

I congratulate you on understanding this every overlooked principle: thicker strings = thicker sound and less tune/note waiver. Even small guys can sound like giants!

  • @dblthnk02 I'm mostly a bass player, and I agree with you totally - Heavy strings are where it's at, specially if you down-tune at all. I use a 6-string bass with the bottom string being a 145, which is something like a small girder, but anything thinner down-tuned even to just A is like playing spaghetti, and sounds as such. And once you get used to playing chunky strings, I found them FAR better for speedy playing, as they don't wobble about as much. I'm a small guy but I got used to it!

  • diggin that midi keyboard theme

  • @EnveBeats It all boils down to grip strength. Body weight and height have nothing to do with it. All the muscles and muscle groups beyond my forearm are irrelevant to my grip. Maybe some people have less grip strength than others, but I think that virtually any guitar player can learn to use higher gauge strings. And they will get a better, meatier tone for it. Less tuning problems, too

  • @dblthnk02 ok well i was born premature, and im ur same height but only 135lbs,im really skinny, and so r my hands,9s are perfect for me,how can u expect sum1 to use lets say slash's string size if they have a way smaller build,i just get pissed cuz alot of ppl say 9s r for pussys, and thats just not true,u wanna call sum1 a pussy how about yngwie, hes like 200lbs and uses 8s,now thats ridiculous, just sayn, different sting sizes r for ppl with different hands, thats my point

  • @EnveBeats 5'10", 155 lbs . . . I'm not sure what that matters. I knew a bass player no bigger than I who had massive hands

  • @dblthnk02 alright them,let me ask u this,how tall r u,n how much u weigh?

  • @EnveBeats I have skinny hands, and I don't use lights. I also don't know how to post videos, so you got me there.

But if I did, what you would see is called "rhythm." I don't play a bunch of distorted, hyperactive licks picking madly through a standard stack of hm scales that I learned out of books. I go for tone, feel, and- well, rhythm.

  • @dblthnk02 oh and btw..Danny Gill from licklibrary uses 9.5 super lights and hes one of the best guitarists on youtube, and hes NOT skinny like i am either, tough guy

  • @dblthnk02 So if u arent MAN enough to post videos, then step off SONNY lol
