The first flight of the Blue Phoenix 2.
10 April 2010
Towards Masters Thesis research in Autonomous 3D Map Generation, this experiment tested the flight worthiness of the airframe (SiG Rascal) and the UAV's ability to control an onboard camera from the ground and receive live video back to Earth. It is the researcher's hope that eventually, video like this will be rapidly processed into 3D terrain maps thanks to on-going efforts to improve structure from motion algorithms like the work done by the UNC 3D Vision Group.
