The verse that is normally used is related to 'idle talk' - Muhammad Mahsin Khan's translation ('The Noble Qur'an') puts in the foot notes that it relates to Music. Unfortunately far to many Muslims prefer to avoid the 'common sense' test because 9/10 you'll know the answer already.
@sids500 There aren't many smart people n the world... a lot of people mis interperate things... the thing is you have to do the research when you ee something
I'm not making excuses for anything, I am merely "explaining"
You keep focusing on the punishments instead of anything else, that would be like me focusing on the death penalty in the U.S. and saying the U.S. is inhumane or wrong.
The Qur'an does NOT speak about killing an apostate. This is the problem, you keep typing without knowing.
I never professed anything to u argue the case, don't assume what i am or not.
I almost repeated the same argument, if you don't get it then don't waste my time
@Iammram It's a useless god who is all-powerful and mighty, yet cannot explain itself clearly to it's subjects. The text also contain orders on what to do wih non-believers. Some fundamentalists follow this. Oters knowing it's wrong, choose to ignore it and only follow the good bits. How does this lead anyone the think it's worth following at all? I could pick and choose what i like to follow, it would be easy. As an outsider it seems just clearly nonsense! Maybe you are too close to it to see?
@Iammram As usual, you xcannot reply yes or no to a simple question involving the edicts of your faith. You make excuses for the bad things (see your reply) and exaggerate the good as if it were proven truth. Yes, apostasy is considered punishable by death if you take the texts literally. You are right, some do some don't. But that's my point. The qur'an is apparently the word of god (again completely up for dispute), so it should be clear and interpreted the same way by all........
Racism implies Race/color, but fine I see how you mean it.
Apostates no, this is often misconstrued, In the context of passages, apostates were (and even today) are those who not only leave but "Curse" the religion in return.
Kafir's no, unless you mean it again in the "context" that they were the pagans whom the Muslims were in battle with?
You really shouldn't pick out things like this, it doesn't help you to understand anything when you are looking for negatives to use against.
"Hadiths are recordings by the companions of the prophet". Are they? They are "considered" as that, but are they really? Where can this be shown to be true?
@Iammram "Racism where and how?" Have you read either? Killing apostates and kuffars. Is that not racism? I am certainly not swerving the topic. I have asked a few questions but no answers from you. Just the usual assertion that because it says something in a book it must be true, except if it's not nice, in wehich case it is ignored and skirted around. Let's start with this one then......Do you condone the death penalty for apostasy? A common question, but not sufficiently apologised for.

Continued:
As for your other comment that I just noticed on Hadiths, click reply to my name next time so I see it.
Yes Hadiths are recordings. How can this be shown? Look at them lol
The people who recorded them have their full names in the recordings.
