  • In 1948 as a choir boy in England, I was introduced to this record with Salut demeure chaste de pure on the B side, since then I cannot listen to other singers without comparing Jussi

    One in a lifetime

  • This was the first performance I ever heard of Bjorling, several years ago and it "blew me away". To hear the simple lines of this classic aria sung with such clarity, perfection, and passion truly opened my eyes (and ears). I suddenly realized what a truly great singer can do. I love Pavarotti, but he often makes "noise" compared the the "music" I hear from Bjorling.

Now: my next new favorite tenor is Pavol Breslik. Similar in many ways, I think, to Bjorling. Totally passionate, musical.

  • I had this played at my late Father's funeral. He had always loved this song.

  • This is as good as it gets!!!

  • This is so beautiful! I love Jussi. His voice is so unique.Thank you for posting this jewel.

  • I had this played as the recessional at my late father's cremation. He used to sing it about the house, though obviouly nowhere near to the quality of Bjorling. This was his favorite rendition.

  • He stands side by side with the best.

  • Jussi Bjorling, first "inter pares" had a nice , clear, strong, sweet and hot voice. Donr't compare with Pavarotti, Domingo, or Carreras. Only with Caruso, Gigli, Del Monaco, and Kraus.

  • @sdweaver2008 I agree with you re Bjorling v. Pavarotti. I think Pavarotti's cold compared to Bjorling. Thanks for teaching me about Breslik.

  • this is one of the most beautiful versions. a change in a single consonant or vowel does not make it any less divine sounding.

  • One of the most beautiful tenor voices that opera has ever known. Two Thumbs Up!
