Through its own innovative programs and many dedicated partners, the MFO has been recognized for its fundamental commitment to help build and benefit communities in Ontario since 1964. Today, as in the past, Freemasons, their families and friends, each contribute hard-earned dollars every year to the MFO, whether directly or through their districts or local lodges, which is then respectfully distributed to many worthy charities and organizations across the province.

In the form of bursaries to many college and university students, research grants to leading scientists and academics, and funds provided directly for awareness educators in towns and cities, the MFO for the cause of good has gratefully supported people for many years.

The MFO also provides cash each year to the Boy Scouts, Girl Guides, DeMolay, 4H and Rainbow Girls.

In 1980, the Foundation initiated a fund-raising campaign expressly to support research related to inner ear hearing problems, particularly to contribute to development of the Cochlear Implant Program. "Project H.E.L.P." (Hearing for Every Living Person) raised a capital fund of $600,000 initially. With the interest earned, the MFO still supports the Auditory Science Laboratory at SickKids hospital each year.

The legacy of the Foundation in initiating the Cochlear Implant Program will never be forgotten. Every Mason in this Province has reason to be very proud of his contribution to this dynamic and globally-recognized program.

In recognition of the Foundation's support and financial contribution to the Auditory Science Laboratory and the Cochlear Implant Program now in place at SickKids, a plaque marking the MFO's financial contribution of more than $1 million has been mounted on the wall outside the new science facility located within the hospital.
